Tonights Show - update on Mister Sister

Dear bloggers,
I am a relative of Mister Sister. Sadly, she was doing well and then last Friday got another infection and got really sick. This surgery has been a long road, but she is doing better and hopefully by Monday or Tuesday she will be able to get back to the computer. She wanted me to post this new post and say this is where tonight's comments can go. She will be reading and posting all comments as soon as she's able.
thanks everyone.

  12. This is like Breaking Amish. These girls did not just leave a few days ago. Bad acting. I'm sure they have a lot to share I just wish TLC would do an honest reality show with no setups and scripts.

  22. Wishing you well Mister Sister. :-)

About all of these new polygamy shows, I'm having trouble getting interested in them. Everything seems urgent, life and death, thrown in your face from the git-go. We weren't even really given a chance to know who's who, like we did get with the Brown's.
I miss watching Sister Wives. I feel like I know their family. They lacked serious drama but the new shows have too much serious drama. I watch tv for entertainment. I want to be catty and make fun of the baby doll tops over long sleeve shirts. I even like going online and seeing how each house turned out and their personal decorating styles.
I understand that abusing women/girls in the polygamy lifestyle is a horid situation but I don't understand why it is (new shows) being presented in an 'entertainment' format. I guess it's just not my cup of tea.

    1. I agree. I like to watch every day lives. Not the lets go on a trip for the cameras kind of thing. Just life as it happens.

So sorry to hear Mister Sister has faced illness again. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I ran across this fascinating article about a Mormon woman's crisis of belief and polygamy factors into her story. I encourage you to read it. It would be great to link to this and discuss it on the blog. Here is a link to the article on Salon that is circulating on the web today. http://www.salon.com/2012/06/01/but_im_a_good_mormon_wife/

  25. According to a Reuter’s article the Internet is having an effect on people leaving the Mormon church (and presumably the polygamy lifestyle). It would be interesting to have Mister Sister's experts comment on whether information on the Internet is helping plygs see the light:

When mormon Elder Marlin Jensen was asked if he knew that mormons were leaving the church in ‘droves’ he acknowledged he, and “the 15 men that are above me in the hierarchy of the church,” knew it.

Marlin said the Internet allowed complete access to information that was critical of the mormons. And that church manuals were ‘behind the time.’

Sociologists believe that, even though the lds claim 14 million members, as few as 5 million are active. And the retention rate for converts made by missionaries may be as low as 25%.

The article goes on to explain a plethora of other reasons people are leaving the church and how the church’s efforts to staunch the flow of members leaving the church are failing.

This website, sponsored by the lds, reveals how they ‘count’ membership. Once confirmed, the only way to get off the membership roles is to either ask to be removed, die or be excommunicated. This, inevitably, leads to an exaggeration of the numbers of ‘mormons’.

In short, Joseph Smith, Jr. et al can’t compete with free and open communication...

RE: Breaking the Faith...I don't see any posts about it, but a quick google or twitter search will give you all the info you need to tell you the people, the year they really got out, etc...It is scripted, retelling of what happened years ago. Perhaps it will give info some people don't know and that can be good, but it's fake and that just annoys me. Just say at the start of the show that it's a narrative of past events, no big deal.

I would like to wish Mister Sister all the best and I pray for a full recovery. I may not post here a lot like I know a lot of other regulars do. But believe me when I say I AM a regular! I've been a dedicated fan of Mister Sister's blog since I found it like 2 or 3 years ago. Its a favorite of mine and I will continue to read here MS until you get sick of us :-) take as long as you need to recover. Your readers will still be here.

  51. All positive thoughts to you Mister Sister. You have been bringing us an awesome place to air our feelings and concerns. And of course the Laughs !!! You have brought to our attention, the real and tragic events within the polygamy communities. Modern day slavery and and child abuse all in the name of religion. People that are brainwashed are in a CULT. Please get well soon. We all miss you very much. :)
